Jbel Toubkal

Jbel Mgoun
Jbel Toubkal is the name of the highest peak in North Africa (4167 m) located in the Western High Atlas of Morocco, a few miles away from Marrakech.
It was first climbed in 1923 by Marquis De Segonzac. The Toubkal area dominates the most beautiful mountain valleys in the Atlas, offering rewarding treks through the magnificent remote Berber villages where houses are virtually wedged onto the hillside overlooking the terraced fields and orchards. Eventually the echo of the chanting shepherds can be heard as they herd the cattle up the juniper forests.
Trekking in the isolated villages of Toubkal is not only a challenging hike to test your fitness but also an insight into the Berber way of life .
Jbel Mgoun is the second highest peak in Morocco, 4068m. This area's fame is related to the valley of the Ait Bougmez. It lies on a surface 14 km long,1km wide and geologically formed after the cretaceous period around 200 million years ago, as indicated by dinosaurs' foot prints.
Still relatively untouched, it is renowned for its mud brick houses, granaries, enclosed fields and orchards between the side hills, and for the laid- back lifestyle of the Berber people. It is known also as 'the happy valley' as it invites the traveller to retreat from the stress and anxiety of the fast-paced life of the West.
