The red city's skyline is dominated by minarets, modern hotels and generally low- rise housing set against the back drop of the Atlas Mountains. Yet less than 50km away you enter a traditional Berber world where modernisation is only slowly taking place or scurry further beyond the mountains among thousands of kasbahs and the Sahara landscape.
